Earth Science Frontiers Peer Review Policy Statement
Earth Science Frontiers publishes in each issue the majority of articles on a specific frontier research topic as well as a few articles on a range of self-select topics in the Earth Sciences. Accordingly, our single-blind peer review process is two-tiered as follows:
Review manuscripts on a specific topic selected for the issue
The guest editor-in-chief, appointed by the editorial board and the editorial office, works first with the editorial board members to decide on a specific research topic as well as the main contents for the issue. The guest editor-in-chief and his designated peer reviewers then review the solicited manuscripts and the editorial board members make decisions on the peer-reviewed manuscripts for publication. Disputed manuscript is further reviewed by the editor-in-chief.
Review manuscripts on self-select topics
The in-house editors in the editorial office preview the submitted manuscripts and decide which manuscripts are suitable for peer review. The in-house editors then select 1-2 peer reviewers (experts in the field from different institutions as the author) per manuscript to review the selected manuscripts. Disputed manuscript is reviewed by additional 1-2 peer reviewers and further reviewed by the editor-in-chief if dispute is not resolved.
